Statistically trends are showing that more and more people are presenting at their doctors surgery suffering from some form of mental health problem. Whether this is work related stress, bereavement, relationship issues or the fact that people are now encouraged to disclose histories of abuse.

It is quite common now for surgeries and health centres to have access to or employ the services of a counsellor or therapist. However in a climate that sees more and more people recognising the need to take care of their mental health as well as their physical health, these resources are stretched, leading to long waiting lists and people waiting possibly months for an appointment to see a counsellor.

A counsellor is a facilitator of change, a mirror to enable a person to look at themselves in an honest and objective way without fear of judgement and prejudice. The counselling relationship is a wholly professional one, which is both exclusive and intimate, and something that most of us would benefit from at certain times in our lives.
