We
offer this service to afford people a choice in how they would like
to work through their issues. There are two reasons for this,
geographically, people may not be able to access my service because
they live outside of the Greater Manchester area or they are living
outside of the UK. Secondly, it can be very difficult for some
people to actually turn up at an office to meet with someone and
then discuss their problems. We offer telephone counselling as an
option for people who feel they would prefer to stay in their home
and talk with someone. Clients wishing to use this option will have
a clear idea of what they would hope to benefit from working through
their issues with a counsellor. Like face-to-face counselling, the
counsellor and client will contract at the outset for an agreed
number of sessions. These are usually weekly, hour-long sessions.
Clients may choose to re-contract again after the agreed period if
they feel they need to. |

Telephone
counselling is not a service for people experiencing emergency
crisis, nor is it an advice line for people seeking immediate
answers to problems. Organisations like The Samaritans may be
of more help in these situations. If you are experiencing
crisis in your life please contact one of the many national
help lines listed in your telephone directory. |
